Everyone appreciates the uniqueness of the German manufacturer's lineup. But with the debuting changes in the R8, newbies to Audi will experience the best Audi ever made. Audi experts, meanwhile, will be smiling even more than normal while experiencing the new 2-door coupe.
Like other Audi offerings, the new R8 is fast, fun and wonderfully noisy. It’s more understated than flashy. With a 4.2-liter V8 FSI engine with a six-speed R-Tronic Quattro transmission, the Audi has multiple personalities. It's a mid-engined supercar, but its style and performance don't get lost while the R8 is entirely comfortable playing the role of a daily driver.
Of course, the R8's performance is superior having a finely tuned ECU and TCU. There’s lots of aluminum and carbon fiber in its design. As such, you can experience its impressive acceleration of 0-100 kmh in 3.4 seconds and its stunning standing quarter-mile effort of 11.5 seconds. The combination of 450 horsepower (increased to 490hp with stage 2 upgrades) and 450 n.m of torque are further enhanced by the always-pleasing benefits of Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system. Cornering is a rush of controlled speed and grace. The car handles as if it’s somehow reading your thoughts. The ride is broad and level.
But there's plenty more, including four drive modes that result in different exhaust notes. And with a top speed of 316 kmh, what's not to like?
Extraordinarily comfortable supercars aren't particularly common, but that's another R8 strong point. The interior is superbly appointed with top-grade materials, including Nappa leather. The seats are tightly bolstered, and there’s plenty of overall room for two adults to enjoy a luxurious ride.
